Yubi Yazaki ("Sougeiga" - Fabric In-lay/Collage)

Picture
Yubi Yazaki is a successor of "sougeiga" invented by Yodo Kobuchi.  She was originally trained as a wall-hanging scroll maker like Kobuchi.  After being a craftsperson for 8 years, with her love for art, Yazaki found her passion in "sougeiga," a new kind of picture making, using many of the same materials as scroll making and decided to pursue her career as a "sougeiga" artist.

Not only does she create her own artwork, Yazaki is in charge of promoting "sougeiga" and Kobuchi's artwork.  While she has done numerous shows for both Kobuchi's and her "sougeiga" in Japan, she also offers workshops to give audiences hands-on experiences, believing that making the artwork promotes better understanding than listening.

Yazaki also promotes "sougeiga" internationally.  In 2013, Yazaki joined a "Noh (Japanese classical musical)" event and traveled to Seattle, US.  The event had a show for Yodo Kobuchi and Yubi Yazaki while Yazaki offered a workshop to children.  She has actively attended shows in other countries and continues to expose "sougeiga" worldwide.
