Yoshihiko Maki (Wood Sculpture)

Yoshihiko Maki was born and resides in Aichi, Japan. Maki has 8 years of intense training in the traditional wood carving called "Inami Choukoku" under his mentor, Shusaku Zenmoto in the Toyama prefecture. After learning the traditional wood carving, Maki developed his own style for his art.
With his sculpture, Maki desires to bring out positive emotions from an audience. His work involves animals and other small creatures. For the most characteristic part of his art making, he gives these creatures characters in everyday life situations. Maki's unique sculptures are somewhat poetic, creating stories, interactions and emotions.
Maki has actively entered art contests and won a number of awards including:
The grand prize in Wood Carving Folk Art exhibit in 2009;
The merit award in Wood Craft exhibit in 2010;
The merit award in Wood Craft exhibit in 2011;
The Foreign Mister Award in Global Artist Movement in 2013.
This award-winning artist continues to be exposed not only in Japan but also worldwide.
